Zuhne sinks are made from premium 304 or 316 stainless steel. If surface rust marks or discolouration appear, they are not a sign of product failure and do not affect the sink's structure or performance. In most cases they are superficial and fully removable with proper cleaning. The most common external causes are:

1. Iron or ferrous particles in the water supply. Common in newly built or recently renovated homes where new plumbing flushes out metal debris, in older buildings with corroding pipes, or in homes using untreated well water. Rust marks may appear near the drain or in sink corners where water lingers. They typically stop once the plumbing settles.

2. Rust-transferring items left on the sink. Cast iron cookware or carbon steel knives left wet in the sink overnight, metal tools, screws or brackets left by contractors, and tin cans with rusted or sharp bottoms. Prolonged contact with moisture can transfer rust to the sink surface. These marks are cosmetic and easily cleaned.

3. Abrasive cleaning tools. Steel wool pads or metal scouring brushes may remove tough stains, but they also scratch the protective chromium oxide layer of stainless steel. Scratches can trap debris and moisture, which increases the risk of surface staining and reduces shine over time.

4. Harsh chemicals not rated for stainless steel. Industrial solvents, paint removers and caustic drain cleaners, and cleaners containing hydrochloric, sulfuric or muriatic acid. These can corrode the passive protective layer and cause recurring or permanent staining if not promptly and thoroughly rinsed.

5. Construction debris or airborne metal dust. Dust from tile cutting, concrete work or grinding metal fittings, and workers rinsing tools or mop buckets in the sink. This fine debris settles in corners and edges and can cause localised rust spots if not cleaned off straight away.

To clean: rinse, then wipe gently with dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge. Repeat over a few days. Avoid stronger products.

Zuhne sinks are made from high-grade, scratch-resistant (but not scratch-proof) 304 or 316 stainless steel. Like all stainless steel, surface scratches may occur over time, especially in busy kitchens where sinks are used as the workhorses they are meant to be. Scratches are a cosmetic condition only. They do not affect the durability, hygiene or structural integrity of the sink, and they are not considered defects.

Why scratches occur: sliding pots, pans or sharp utensils across the sink surface, using abrasive pads or scouring tools, and dropping heavy or metal objects into the basin.

Good news: over time, most surface scratches begin to blend into the surface of the sink and become less noticeable with regular use. The sink develops a natural patina and a softer, more uniform look.

Care tips to minimise scratches:

• Use silicone-coated sink mats or stainless steel bottom grids to protect high-contact areas
• Avoid steel wool, wire brushes and rough scouring pads
• Clean with soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaners, wiping along the direction of the grain where the finish has one

Because scratches are normal cosmetic wear, they are not covered under Zuhne's Limited Lifetime Warranty. Zuhne sinks are made to be used and enjoyed, not just admired.

Zuhne sinks have sound and thermal insulation designed to reduce temperature transfer and moisture buildup. Under certain conditions, condensation may still occur. This is a natural physical response, not a product defect.

Why it happens: condensation can form when there is a difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the sink. Moisture in the surrounding air then condenses on the sink's outer surface or inside the cabinet.

Common situations:

• Defrosting frozen food directly on the sink base. Extended contact with ice, frozen meat or frozen packaging can chill the sink surface and draw condensation on the underside. Defrost in a colander, bowl or defrosting tray placed inside the sink.
• Temperature difference inside the cabinet. On hot days, a closed cabinet can heat up while cold tap water or ice cools the sink. Keeping the cabinet door slightly ajar improves airflow and reduces moisture buildup.
• A sink installed too close to a gas stove. Heat from cooking can warm one side of the sink and create uneven surface temperatures.
• Prolonged or direct sunlight. Sinks near windows or in outdoor kitchens may be heated by the sun, which adds to the temperature imbalance.

Condensation is caused by environmental and usage-related factors, not by the sink's material or construction, so it is not covered under Zuhne's Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Zuhne sinks have sound-dampening pads and an insulation spray. They keep running water and clattering pots quiet and help keep the cabinet drier. Because the pads are thick and the steel is heavy, the sink is much heavier than the average retail sink.

Why marks can appear: minor scuffs or marks may appear on the exterior insulation during transit or handling. The weight of the sink means the underside can be subject to high-friction contact during secure-freight shipping. These marks are purely cosmetic, sit on the non-visible underside, and have no impact on the sink's structure, rust resistance or performance. They are not covered under warranty.

During installation: because the pads are thicker than normal, the sink needs a little more care when it is lowered into the cabinet. If the installer drops the sink into place without adjusting, the pads may rub against the cabinet sides and leave minor scuffs. This is not a defect. It does not affect the performance, durability or insulation of the sink. It is simply a result of installation technique.

To avoid pad scuffs:

1. Make sure there is enough clearance in the cabinet before lowering the sink in (no protruding nails, clips or hinges).
2. Lower the sink carefully, centred in the cabinet, so the pads don't scrape the sides.
3. Any scuffs that do occur are cosmetic, on the underside, and hidden after installation.

Many Zuhne sinks have gently sloped bases designed to guide water toward the drain, without the aggressive incline of older designs. The more gradual slope also helps stop delicate glassware, such as wine glasses, from tipping or sliding.

Why some water may remain: Zuhne sinks are designed to channel water toward the drain, but they are not engineered to drain completely dry. Minor water patches may remain after use, especially in low-flow conditions. This is not a defect. It is a design trade-off between efficient drainage and everyday usability and safety.

Best practice: wipe down any residual water once a day with a soft towel or microfibre cloth after the last use. This quick 10 to 15 second step helps prevent mineral build-up, water marks and oxidation from standing water, especially in hard water areas.

Water pooling or minor residual patches are not covered under the warranty, because they result from design choices rather than material defects. They can also be an installation issue if the sink is not installed completely flat and level, so please check this at installation. No sink in this category, regardless of brand, can guarantee a bone-dry finish without manual drying.

Many Zuhne sinks have a clear, micro-thin protective nano coating. It makes the surface smoother and easier to clean, works like a high-quality topcoat, and improves daily usability.

How the coating ages: like car wax, this clear top layer wears naturally with regular use. After some years you may notice less gloss, or soft uneven patches where it has worn more. This is normal and expected for any clear protective finish. Heat marks the coating quickly and the mark cannot be repaired, so use a trivet or the tray under hot cookware, and clean with a soft sponge and dishwashing liquid, not scourers, melamine sponges or abrasive creams.

The stainless steel underneath is not affected. It remains as durable, rust-resistant and hygienic as ever.
